Davidi Kitai has just become the latest Betfair poker player to win the coveted Triple Crown after taking down the European Poker Tour (EPT) event in Berlin for €712,000. Kitai defeated a bumper field of 745-players and can now perch his EPT title on his mantelpiece next to his World Poker Tour (2011, LA Poker Classic) and World Series of Poker (2008, $2k Pot Limit Omaha) titles. The Belgian, all-time live tournament money earner, has become the second Belgian to achieve recent acclaim after Kevin Vandersmissen took down the 2012 Irish Open just a few short weeks ago.
Kitai won the event after, what many media observers are describing as, the greatest heads-up battle of Season 8 so far. With just the Grand Final in Monaco to go, it is a safe bet that it will be remembered as the very best. Kitai defeated Andrew Chen in that heads-up final. Miraculously Chen was observed on Twitter, around the money bubble, predicting that he was going to bubble the event – from bubble to €613,000 – not a bad achievement.
Kitai said on his victory, “I feel really great, it’s amazing. I never expected to beat this field.”
Davidi Kitai becomes the first ever Belgian to win an EPT event and secures not only the wonderful cheque, but also a Shamballa bracelet worth more than €10,000 and a seat in the €100,000 Free Roll Champions of Champions event being held in Monte Carlo in a few days time.
